Exclusive: Embraer Unveils $80 Million Bespoke Jets Inspired By A Bygone Era

Wish you could live the high life in the 1920s and ‘30s?
Embraer’s two newest luxury jet concepts channel the American era’s elegance and glamour, drawing inspiration from the S.S. Normandie—a French ocean liner that epitomized the period's signatureArt Deco style.

Created by the company’s vice president of interior design, Jay Beever, in partnership with former Disney Imagineer, Eddie Sotto, each plane embodies a key Deco destination. Outfitted in rich mahogany with gold and brass accents, the Manhattan Airship boasts a metallic entry mural meant to emulate the Leif Neandross-designed work in the lobby of the Empire State Building, along with a lounge and bar modeled on the Chrysler Building.

In contrast, the Hollywood Airship—inspired by black-and-white film—is a toast to Tinseltown, featuring backlit crystal structures, marble detailing, and 3D sculpted leather reliefs depicting Sunset Tower, Howard Hughes’ flying boat (the “Spruce Goose”), and a handful of iconic cars from the 1930s. (“The sculpted wall and headliner trim take advantage of a space rarely considered a canvas for art,” Beever notes.)

Proposed as charter aircraft, the customizable planes—which showcase seats clad in mohair and lambskin leather and exotic veneers—are divided into five cabin zones. The first three serve as open gathering spaces that encourage socialization, while the salon is reserved for relaxation and intimate conversation. Then there’s the Crystal Room—an exclusive dining space.

Though the purchasable designs are scalable and can be applied to Embraer’s entire line of corporate jets, they were conceived for the brand’s flagship model, the Lineage 1000E. “These concepts are based on existing seating and monument structures, meant for ease of execution and a timely build,” Beever says.

Capable of accommodating up to 19 passengers, the high-tech jet touts the largest in-flight accessible baggage compartment in business aviation, global Internet access, and an optional master suite with a stand-up, two-person shower and bed.

“The Lineage 1000E is one of the largest aircraft capable of operating out of airports like London City, Teterboro, and Aspen, which cater to smaller private jets. This is critical to the Hollywood and Manhattan business plan,” Beever says. “In addition, the Lineage 1000E is known for best-in-class operating costs and dispatch reliability, thanks to its commercial airline platform heritage.”

As for the cost of the lavish designs? Expect to pay more than $80 million per jet.
